Veronika Fischer is a German singer who forged her career in the 1970s in the
former East Germany where she trained as a classical singer at Carl Maria Von
Weber College of Music in Dresden in the late 1960s. During this time she also
performed with a number of jazz combos. Her first band, Panta Rhei, released
their first album in 1973 on the state-run Amiga record label. Two years later,
still on Amiga, Fischer formed her own unit, Veronika Fischer & Band, and
released four more albums to achieve group sales of some 1.5 million units in
the Communist state.
