Ladislav John "Walter" Ostanek, born on April 20, 1935 in Duparquet, Quebec, is
a Canadian musician known for his contributions to polka music. At five, he
received his first accordion and began playing Slovenian-style polkas and
waltzes. In 1957, Ostanek formed the Walter Ostanek Band, which recorded its
first album in 1963. He released over 50 albums, including The Magic Cordovox
(1974) and Home for Christmas (1975). Ostanek received three Grammy Awards for
