Walter Ríos, born July 18, 1942, in San Eduardo, Santa Fe, Argentina, is an
Argentine tango composer, director, and bandoneón player. His early training
began under his father, Santos Ríos, and he performed in his father's orchestra
starting at age six. He joined the Orquesta Maipo as a teenager and moved to
Buenos Aires in 1960 to study at the Conservatorio Nacional. In 1966, he became
a founding member of the Tango Trío, and in 1977, he co-founded the Quinteto de
Música de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires with guitarist Ricardo Domínguez, with whom
