Wayne King, born Harold Wayne King on February 16, 1901 in Savanna, Illinois,
was an American musician, songwriter, and bandleader. After playing alto
saxophone for the Paul Whiteman Orchestra, he formed Wayne King and His
Orchestra in 1927, which opened the new Aragon Ballroom in Chicago. The group
began recording for RCA Victor Records in 1929 and gained prominence through The
Lady Esther Serenade, a national radio program from 1931 to 1937. Notable
releases include "Goodnight, Sweetheart" (1931) and "Dream a Little Dream of Me"
