William Croft was baptised on December 30, 1678, in Ettington, Warwickshire, and
was an English composer and organist. He studied under John Blow at the Chapel
Royal until 1698. Two years after his departure, he became organist of St.
Anne's Church, Soho, and later succeeded Blow as organist at Westminster Abbey
in 1708. Croft composed works for Queen Anne’s funeral in 1714 and King George
I’s coronation in 1715. He published Musica Sacra in 1724, which included the
Burial Service. His hymn tune "St Anne" is one of his most enduring pieces. He
