Yasek Manzano Silva, born December 10, 1980 in Havana, Cuba, is a trumpet player
and composer. He began lessons at the Alejandro Garcia Caturla Conservatory in
Marianao before moving to the Amadeo Roldán Conservatory in 1995, where he
embraced jazz. In 1997, receiving a trumpet from Roy Hargrove sparked his active
participation in Havana’s jam scene, and a scholarship led him to study at
Juilliard under Wynton Marsalis. His album Amnios 1407 (2009) won the 2010
