Zao
Zao is an American metalcore band from Parkersburg, West Virginia, formed in
March 1993 by vocalist Eric Reeder, guitarist Roy Goudy, bassist Mic Cox, and
drummer Jesse Smith. The group's name was derived from the Greek word ζάω,
meaning "living" or "being alive." The band initially identified as a Christian
hardcore band, with early albums All Else Failed (1995) and The Splinter Shards
the Birth of Separation (1997) featuring themes centered around Christianity. In
1998, Smith recruited Brett Detar, Russ Cogdell, and Daniel Weyandt to form a
