Jun'ya Ōta, professionally known as ZUN, is a Japanese independent video game
developer, composer, and writer who was born on March 18, 1977, in Hakuba,
Japan. Originally a trumpet player who wanted to compose music for video games,
ZUN developed the first Touhou Project game, Highly Responsive to Prayers, for
the NEC PC-9800 computer series in order to showcase his own compositions.
Released under the circle name ZUN Soft in August 1997, the game was followed by
Story of Eastern Wonderland (1997), which introduced the signature bullet hell
