Mark Thomas, born in Penclawdd, Gower Peninsula, Wales, on April 9, 1956, was a
Welsh composer who lived until 2023. He began his career as a violinist,
performing in orchestras for film composers including John Williams, Jerry
Goldsmith, and John Barry, and playing in the original orchestra for Andrew
Lloyd Webber's musical The Phantom of the Opera on its opening night in 1986. He
transitioned to film and television composition in the early 1990s, composing
